This translation of the Old Testament, executed by Gregory Martin under the supervision of William Cardinal Allen was printed by Laurence Kellam at the Egnlish Catholic college at Douai and issued in 1609 and 1610. The New Testament had been printed at the English college at Rheims in 1582. Taken together, these three volumes are commonly known as the Douai/Rheims Bible and represent the first Catholic bible printed in English

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy bound in modern, brown morocco with the title stamped in gilt on the spine. The armorial bookplate of William Gott is present on both front pastedowns. An auctioneer's description is tipped onto the front pastedown of volume 1. An early inscription on the front flyleaf of volume 1 reads, "This is the first edition of the first Roman Catholic translation of the Bible into English." An inscription on the rear flyleaf reads, "Y.S.R. 3 vols. Dering's sale, 1861." Bound-in at the front of vol. 1 is a 24-page pamphlet titled Notice sur une traduction Anglaise de L'ecriture Sainte ... sous le titre de Bible de Douai et Nouveau Testament de Reims. (Douai: Imprimerie de V. Adam, 1841)
